Roebuck is an unincorporated community in Spartanburg County, named for Benjamin Roebuck, a Revolutionary War officer. Walnut Grove Plantation, the Moore family home built around 1765, sits near where US 221 crosses I-26 and is often called the oldest home in the county. US 221, I-26 and Dorman High School are the landmarks most people steer by. We are based in Duncan, a short drive away.

Brick ranches off US 221

Roebuck has plenty of brick ranches and brick veneer homes on good-sized lots, built from the late 1950s into the 1970s, on roads like Old Georgia Road, Stone Station Road and Brookfield Road. They were built well. The brick doesn’t need anything. What these houses tend to need is everything around the brick:

  • Fascia, soffit and window trim. After decades and many coats, trim paint starts to crack and peel at the joints. We scrape, sand and spot prime before two finish coats.
  • Shutters. We take them down, paint both faces, and rehang them.
  • The front door and garage door. These take a lot of sun and get touched every day. See doors and garage doors.
  • Inside. If the house still has its original hardwood floors, careful floor protection matters. Walls usually have years of patches and color changes. We repair and prime before we paint.

Changing the trim color and front door on a brick ranch is one of the cheapest ways to make it look different from the street.

Newer neighborhoods near Dorman

The newer side of Roebuck is houses built from the mid 2000s on: Timm Creek on Montgomery Lake across from Dorman High School, Dorman Meadows, and newer communities still being built, like Ravencrest. In these houses the usual jobs are inside: replacing flat builder paint with a washable finish, adding color, and painting the kitchen cabinets. Our Performance level, Sherwin-Williams Duration Home, is the usual pick for busy rooms. See interior painting.

A living room just up the road in Moore

Moore sits on US 221, a few miles from both Roebuck and Duncan. The living room in the photo is one we painted there. It has a fireplace with a white mantel, columns, crown molding, and a hand-painted floral line drawing on the side wall. Rooms like that are mostly trim, and trim is where you see whether the painter took their time.

Roebuck painting questions

Should I paint the brick on my Roebuck ranch?

It depends on the brick and what you want. Painted brick can look great, but it is hard to go back, and it becomes something you maintain. Many people get most of the change they want from trim, shutters and the front door instead. Our brick and limewash page covers both routes.

How do you price shutters and a front door?

We count the shutters and look at the door at the estimate. Shutters are taken down, painted on both faces and rehung. Most people pair them with trim or other work, and you get a written price for all of it before we start. See how we price.

Do you paint in the newer Roebuck subdivisions with an HOA?

Yes. Neighborhoods like Dorman Meadows have an HOA, so check whether exterior colors need approval. Inside work is up to you.

Can you paint around a fireplace and crown molding without making a mess of it?

Yes. That kind of trim work is careful brush work and good masking. The Moore living room on this page, with its mantel, columns and crown, is an example.
