Reidville is named for Reverend Robert Hardin Reid, a Presbyterian minister who came to the area in 1853 and helped found the Reidville Male and Female Academies, which ran from 1857 to 1905. The Reidville Academy Faculty House, built around 1860, is still standing and is on the National Register. SC 296, Reidville Road, runs through town and on toward Spartanburg, with SC 101 just to the west. We are based in Duncan, a short drive away.
Old as the town is, a lot of the houses are new.
Your first repaint
Neighborhoods like the Orchards at Reidville, built mostly from 2008 through 2022, and Reidville Town Center, with its pool and pickleball court, are made up of newer houses. A lot of houses that new are still wearing their original builder paint. That paint did its job: it got the house sold. It is not meant to last.
Here is what usually comes up in a first repaint:
- Walls that won’t wash. Flat builder paint marks easily and scrubbing takes the paint off with the scuff. Our Performance level, Sherwin-Williams Duration Home, holds up to cleaning. See our guide to paint sheen room by room.
- Nail pops and hairline cracks. New framing dries and settles in the first few years. We fix those before we paint.
- One color everywhere. This is where a color consult helps. It is free with every estimate, and we look at colors in your own rooms and light.
- Trim and doors. Builder trim is often one quick coat. A proper coat on baseboards, casing and doors makes a room look finished.
Townhomes and HOAs
Reidville also has townhome communities, such as Powder Branch, where the HOA handles things like lawn care. In a community like that, inside paint is your call, but exterior colors and sometimes exterior work belong to the association. We focus on the inside for townhome owners: walls, ceilings, trim, doors and cabinets.
The kitchen
New-build kitchens often come with cabinets in a color picked to sell the house. If yours are solid, painting them is far less than replacing them. We take the doors and drawer fronts off, label them, and spray them with Sherwin-Williams Gallery Series Waterborne Topcoat, a cabinet coating made to stand up to kitchen use. See cabinet painting and the cabinet cost page.
Older homes and rural lots
Outside the subdivisions there are still brick ranches and older homes on bigger lots. Those tend to need exterior trim, shutters and doors more than siding. Shutters are taken down, painted on both faces and rehung.
